RTR 42-14

The above has been posted as a reminder of the 2010 Alabama vs Auburn game.  Players for the University of Alabama looked at this until TODAY!  The Tide rolled over Auburn 42 to 14 in a very exciting game.

Thanksgiving 2011

GIVE THANKS WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
GIVE THANKS TO THE HOLY ONE
GIVE THANKS FOR HE'S GIVEN
JESUS CHRIST, HIS SON

AND NOW LET THE WEAK SAY I AM STRONG
LET THE POOR SAY I AM RICH
BECAUSE OF WHAT THE LORD HAS DONE FOR US

GIVE THANKS...

As we finish our big meal, including a 20lb moist turkey, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, yams, cranberry sauce, rolls and pecan pie, I am reminded of the wonderful blessings my Father has given to our family. Watching the waves roll onto the shore at Orange Beach is a great reminder of our BIG God and how He created ALL is our All!

Thomas Ken

Tonight, I sat and listened to Kay Arthur teaching the Bible. In Ephesians Chapter 5:18-21,

18 And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit;
19 speaking one to another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
 20 giving thanks always for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;
 21 subjecting yourselves one to another in the fear of Christ.

We are given a command from the Lord to be filled with the Spirit, speaking in psalms, hymns, and songs.

Over three hundred years ago - WOW! - THOMAS KEN wrote this hymn at a time when the established church believed only Scripture should be sung as hymns - with an emphasis on the Psalms.  Some considered it sinful to write new lyrics for church music.  Ken wrote this and several other hymns for the boys at Winchester College in 1674, with strict instructions that they use them only in their rooms for private devotions. The last stanza "below" has come into widespread use as the Doxology
To see the whole hymn go to Awake, My Soul, and with the Sun.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

Bromeliad

This is my favorite kind of flower!  It is beautiful and so easy to care for without a green thumb. Plants do not live very long at the Mitchell house, especially if I am in charge of it.  I either water it too much or not enough.  When we lived in South Florida, bromeliads came in every color and size.  The smallest was about 2" tall and fit perfectly in my antique sugar mold by my sink.  God, You make the most amazing things!  Blessed be Your Name in all the earth!

Marching!

I left this apple on my desk yesterday and when I returned the ants had arrived.  They marched under the baseboard, across the floor, up the side of my desk and to the apple.  The inside of the apple was missing and the phone base was filled with ants.  God made these teeny tiny insects hard workers.  I know they must have worked all night to complete this project. Unbelievable!

IDOPrayer

I invite you and your small group or Bible study to join World Help and others as we lift up our fellow brothers and sisters around the world on Sunday, November 13, the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.

Pray for the wisdom and perseverance of Christ followers in Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia where Muslim extremists are arresting and prosecuting converts for blasphemy.

Crimson Tide?

Why 'Crimson Tide'?
The Origin of "Crimson Tide"
In early newspaper accounts of Alabama football, the team was simply listed as the "varsity" or the "Crimson White" after the school colors.
The first nickname to become popular and used by headline writers was the "Thin Red Line." The nickname was used until 1906.
The name "Crimson Tide" is supposed to have first been used by Hugh Roberts, former sports editor of the Birmingham Age-Herald. He used "Crimson Tide" in describing an Alabama-Auburn game played in Birmingham in 1907, the last football contest between the two schools until 1948 when the series was resumed. The game was played in a sea of mud and Auburn was a heavy favorite to win.
But, evidently, the "Thin Red Line" played a great game in the red mud and held Auburn to a 6-6 tie, thus gaining the name "Crimson Tide." Zipp Newman, former sports editor of the Birmingham News, probably popularized the name more than any other writer.
